TULLY
GENERAL INFORMATION
- LOCATION: 148 km south of Cairns
- POPULATION: Approx. 2800
- Tully is the wettest town in Australia which gets an average drenching of 440 cm a year (14 feet).
- There are a number of farms in this area including bananas and sugarcane. There are also lots of nice
- beaches around Tully as well as some beautiful lush rainforest. Some places of interest in this area
- include Mission Beach, Clump Point, Bignil Bay, Kareeya Gorge and the Murray Falls. About 40 minutes
- scenic drive north-west of Tully is the upper reaches of the Tully River which has been developed for
- rafting. At the end of the road is the hydro-electricity station and a couple of kilometres before it is an
- excellent camping area with plenty of available facilities. From here there is raft access and walkways
- to the river. About the only activity for non-rafters is to take a scenic walk along the riverbank. Back
- along the road to Tully is a lookout which provides good views over a bend in the river.
