TULLY

GENERAL INFORMATION

LOCATION: 148 km south of Cairns
POPULATION: Approx. 2800

Tully is the wettest town in Australia which gets an average drenching of 440 cm a year (14 feet).
There are a number of farms in this area including bananas and sugarcane. There are also lots of nice
beaches around Tully as well as some beautiful lush rainforest. Some places of interest in this area
include Mission Beach, Clump Point, Bignil Bay, Kareeya Gorge and the Murray Falls. About 40 minutes
scenic drive north-west of Tully is the upper reaches of the Tully River which has been developed for
rafting. At the end of the road is the hydro-electricity station and a couple of kilometres before it is an
excellent camping area with plenty of available facilities. From here there is raft access and walkways
to the river. About the only activity for non-rafters is to take a scenic walk along the riverbank. Back
along the road to Tully is a lookout which provides good views over a bend in the river.
